The Growing Conditions Report

The Growing Conditions Report (GCR), produced in cooperation with John Duckhorn of Picovale Services, Inc. Austin Peterson of OVID Napa Valley, Chris D’Alo of Nord Vineyard Services, Will Thomas of Foley Family Farms, and Cody Clark of Silverado Farming Company.

The report employs three simple and widely understood climate measurements known to influence grapevine development, ripening, and crop loads: growing degree days (GDD), total frost hours, and rainfall.

The GCR was started in 2010 with the intention of becoming a tool that would allow grape growers to compare conditions across vintages. Over time, a multi-year collection of reports will add to our understanding of regional climate conditions and help to identify climate trends.

Vintage Reports for Hospitality

Every guest who walks through your doors is curious about the wine in their glass — and a big part of that story starts in the vineyard. These vintage summaries were created to give tasting room staff a simple, confident way to talk about what actually happened in Napa Valley each growing season, in language that feels natural in conversation rather than pulled from a technical report.

Each one-page reference covers the season at a glance, key talking points you can use with guests, and a staff note on anything that might come up as a question. You don't need to memorize everything, just get familiar with the highlights, and let the conversation go from there.

Download the vintage that matches the wines you're pouring, keep a copy behind the bar, and feel free to make it your own.

2025 Vintage — A cooler-than-normal growing season with exceptional acidity, even ripening, and a fast but well-executed harvest compressed by early October rain.

2024 Vintage — A warm return to classic Napa conditions after a cool 2023, with a notable early heat spike in June and a compressed two-week harvest in October.

2023 Vintage — One of the longest and most bountiful harvests in recent memory, shaped by a historically wet winter, a mild summer, and deeply colored red wines.
