Commitment Adopted by the NVG Board of Directors on June 15, 2020 in Support of the Black Community
The Napa Valley Grapegrowers supports the BIPOC community in condemning racial injustice. We believe in leveling the playing field through education to create a truly equitable farming community.
Joining the momentum across the globe advocating for systemic change, our staff and board members commit to taking meaningful action. We have identified the following initial steps, which we will take immediately. These will be incorporated into our guiding principles.
We commit to dedicating staff and financial resources to:
Listening and continuing to educate ourselves
Creating a new Diversity Committee, specifically focused on developing new ways to extend more opportunities in Napa Valley viticulture to the Black community
Expanding our existing intern, mentor and apprenticeship programs to reach a broader, more diverse student population through working with agriculture programs in historically Black colleges & universities
Creating a comprehensive educational program focused on advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in the Napa Valley wine industry
Evaluating our progress annually
We encourage all Napa Valley Grapegrowers to work together in finding ways to expand your outreach of jobs, mentorships, and educational opportunities in support of an equitable, inclusive Napa Valley farming community.
