Where’s the fog?
​Like many parts of the world in 2024, Napa Valley has experienced record-breaking heat in early summer. Although we are hoping for a ‘Fogust’ (foggy August mornings), grapevines are surprisingly resilient when it comes to heat, particularly prior to veraison. Veraison is the process of fruit ripening that can be tracked by the changing color of the grapes. Cabernet, for example, is just starting to go through this process. Although heat could impact things like berry size, this does not negatively impact quality, and growers continue to have a positive outlook for this year’s harvest.
