Unlocking Soil Carbon Through Federal Policy
Vanessa Suarez, Senior Policy Advisor, Carbon180 Soil carbon sequestration can be a solution that radically transforms the agriculture sector's relationship to climate change. By drawing down carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, we can turn the very emissions causing extreme weather and hardships into economic, environmental, and social opportunities. However, to fully realize the benefits of carbon-rich soils across US agriculture will require thoughtful and dedicated investments from the federal government. In her presentation, Vanessa Suarez will touch on the benefits of soil carbon, provide an overview of the current landscape of federal agriculture policy –– diving into recent legislative successes like the Inflation Reduction Act and upcoming opportunities like the Farm Bill, and discuss how these policy vehicles can be leveraged to unlock the full potential of agricultural soil carbon. |
