Message from Executive Director, Caleb Mosley: 50 years of Stewardship

4/1/2025

As NVG’s 50th anniversary celebration continues, we are taking the month of April to reflect on our collective responsibility as stewards of the land. Our deep-rooted commitment to the health of our environment drives us to educate and promote climate-resilient farming techniques, ensuring the longevity of our cherished vineyards. This holistic approach to stewardship extends far beyond the four corners of the vineyards.  Participating in the development of Napa County's Groundwater Sustainability Plan has allowed us to promote effective and realistic conservation strategies, helping to safeguard one of our most precious resources for the benefit of our entire community. Furthermore, our recognition as a 1% for the Planet Environmental Partner underscores our unwavering dedication to education, conservation, and advocacy. Together, these initiatives reflect how we exemplify leadership in sustainable viticulture, and continually drive us to raise the bar for environmental responsibility in the vineyard.
As we kick off April, we look forward to engaging in meaningful conversations about stewardship through:
  • 21st Annual Afternoon in the Vineyards: Help us promote this special event, hosted in partnership with the Napa Valley Vintners. It’s a unique opportunity for all Napa County residents to step into the vineyard and learn firsthand about vineyard stewardship from growers and families dedicated to caring for our land.
  • Corkage for Community: Bring a bottle of wine to Farmstead and chat about farming practices with industry friends! Throughout April, Farmstead will generously support the Napa Valley Grapegrowers through their Corkage for Community program, which contributes every $15 corkage fee to local nonprofits.
  • Grown in Napa Valley Podcast: Episode 13 of “Grown in Napa Valley” drops April 10th! Listen in as NVG’s 2017 Grower of the Year, Ted Hall of Long Meadow Ranch, shares insights on responsible farming. Then join us for a tipple during our "Glass with a Grower" segment as former NVG President, Michael Silacci of Opus One, discusses his commitment to leadership—both with his team and through rigorous, environmentally conscious farming practices.
In closing, and borrowing the mission statement from Long Meadow Ranch, we look forward to celebrating and advancing our shared commitment to “excellence through responsible farming” together!
