"Napa County is trying to ease the sticker shock that some grape growers are receiving from the soon-to-begin groundwater pumping fees for wells on the Napa Valley floor.
By how much may not be known until July 28. That’s when county supervisors, for the first time, are scheduled to adopt groundwater pumping fees for the Napa Valley subbasin to appear on property tax bills...

​Still, the worst-case scenarios left a bad taste in the mouth for many in the wine industry. The Napa Valley Grapegrowers' executive director, Caleb Mosley, said one Oakville grower faced a $12,800 fee.
“This is on top of an already difficult landscape that we’re operating within,” he told supervisors during budget hearings on June 16..."

"​A stubborn grapevine disease is confounding the Napa Valley’s wine grape growers. Its symptoms – red, blotchy patterns on the leaf – almost look like benign fall colors.
But red blotch, as the virus is called, has emerged as one of the most damaging and difficult-to-track grapevine diseases to hit the valley in years. And its center is the Rutherford American Viticultural Area – known for generous sunshine and cool evenings, home to some of Napa’s oldest and most renowned vineyard properties. 
Vineyard managers Jake Maus and Brian Hoefgen have been on the front line of the battle against red blotch since it was identified by UC Davis researchers in 2012. ​June 11, 2026 (Napa, CA) — Napa Valley Grapegrowers (NVG) will host the 2026 Organic Winegrowing Conference on July 29th, and has introduced a new educational format that takes growers directly into the vineyard to explore the future of organic farming and sustainable winegrowing practices. Titled From the Vineyard to the Future of Organic Farming, the month-long program will feature a series of Organic Field Days on three consecutive Wednesdays throughout the Napa Valley, culminating in the Organic Winegrowing Conference on Wednesday, July 29 at The Culinary Institute of America at Copia in downtown Napa.
The Organic Field Days will occur on July 8 at Baldacci Family Vineyards focusing on soil fertility, July 15 at Quintessa covering beneficial insects and pest management, and July 22 at an Opus One trial vineyard discussing ground cover. Designed to provide practical, real-world insights, the Wednesday morning field sessions will bring growers into working vineyards to observe organic farming strategies in action, highlighting how day-to-day farming decisions influence long-term vineyard performance and stewardship.
The series will conclude on July 29 with the Organic Winegrowing Conference, bringing together industry leaders, growers, and sustainability advocates for discussions on the future of organic agriculture.
The conference will open with a keynote conversation featuring two respected organic producers – Steve Matthiasson of Matthiasson Wines and Jason Haas of Tablas Creek Vineyard, discussing how organic winegrowing operates across different wine regions, climates, and market segments with practical takeaways for growers at any scale.

With glasses of sparkling wine raised in a toast, a crowd of Napa vintners and community members cheered as a large excavator tore into the defunct former Napa Sanitation District pump station in Oakville on May 27.
The gathering and toast was to celebrate the groundbreaking on what will be the new home of the Napa Valley Grapegrowers (NVG), the Patrick Foley Center for Grape Growing & Farmworker Education.

“This project is the product of dreamers who refuse to let the idea falter,” NVG executive director Caleb Mosley told the crowd as he recognized the many collaborators behind the effort. Donation included a lead $3 million gift from the Foley Family Charitable Foundation that secured naming rights for the center. The education center’s name honors Patrick Foley, son of vintner Bill Foley and a winemaker, who died in 2018 at age 31.
“Being able to name it after Patrick is especially meaningful,” said Courtney Foley, Patrick’s sister. “He was heavily invested in the significant developmental and educational opportunities that the Grapegrowers and Farmworkers Foundation offers.”
Other major donors include Andy and Betty Beckstoffer, the Moulds family, Trinchero Family Estates, and Mark Pulido and Donna Walker. There is also a one-acre parcel adjacent to the Beckstoffer To Kalon vineyard that is part of the property and will serve as a demonstration vineyard for future NVG projects...

The Napa Valley Grapegrowers (NVG) gathered just off St. Helena Highway in Oakville on May 27 for the official groundbreaking of the Patrick Foley Center for Grapegrowing and Farmworker Education, the organization’s first permanent home and community hub for training and professional growth in the wine industry.
The celebration included a champagne toast to the team of donors and others who’ve helped raise capital (over $9.5 million) for the project, and the kick off to the site’s demolition with a Hitachi backhoe tearing into part of a building on the 2.2-acre property.
“We’re not simply breaking ground on a building. We are breaking ground on a legacy. A legacy built by people who grow the grapes that make this valley famous, and carried forward by generations of growers who will shape the next chapter of this industry,” Caleb Mosley, executive director of NVG, shared during the event. 
Once completed, the center—outfitted with a design honoring the site’s history as the Oakville train station—will feature hands-on training space, a demonstration vineyard with 0.9 acres planted to vine, classroom and community meeting facilities...

April 22, 2026 (Napa, CA) — The Napa Valley Grapegrowers (NVG) have named James “Jim” Regusci the 2026 Napa Valley Grower of the Year, recognizing his decades of leadership in vineyard farming, commitment to sustainable agriculture, and lasting contributions to the Napa Valley community.
A third-generation Napa Valley farmer with roots in the Stags Leap District, Regusci continues the legacy started by his grandfather, Gaetano Regusci, who established the family ranch in 1932. 

April 14, 2026 (Saint Helena, CA) — The Napa County Farm Bureau, Napa Valley Vintners, Napa Valley Grapegrowers, and Winegrowers of Napa County appeared before the Napa County Board of Supervisors on April 14, 2026, speaking with one voice on behalf of Napa’s agricultural community. The coalition presented a unified set of policy recommendations addressing specific, actionable opportunities across permitting, water policy, conservation, and long-term General Plan priorities — and called on the Board to act on both immediate reforms and longer-range land use protections to ensure agriculture remains viable in Napa County for generations to come.
The recommendations were developed collaboratively over several months, drawing on input from active farmers and winemakers, and were formally approved by each organization’s Board of Directors. The coalition framed its appearance not as a protest, but as an act of stewardship — offering honest feedback and practical solutions in the spirit of the nearly 60-year partnership between Napa’s agricultural industry and its Agricultural Preserve land use framework.

As grapevine red blotch virus continues to pose an ongoing challenge for vineyards across Napa Valley and other winegrowing regions, the Napa Valley Grapegrowers (NVG) will host this discussion focused on how neighboring growers are working collaboratively to respond to the disease in real time.
Red blotch remains one of the most persistent and complex threats facing wine grape growers today. The virus delays ripening, reduces fruit quality, and poses an adverse impact on vineyard economic viability. With no definitive cure or widely accepted management solution currently available, growers are often forced to make difficult decisions about vineyard removal, replanting, and long-term investment while navigating considerable uncertainty.
