Vine Mealybug Dogs

The Napa Valley Grapegrowers supports the work of the Assistance Dog Institute (ADI) of Santa Rosa in their program to breed and train dogs to recognize the scent of the Vine Mealybug. In year two, training continues as the ADI moves closer to implementing a viable scent detection program and getting dogs into the field. So far, the Vine Mealybug Scent Detection Program has shown huge promise towards detecting Vine Mealybug infestations early, and this endeavor is widely supported by the Napa County Agricultural Commissioner and other winegrowing industry leaders.

Napa Valley Grapegrowers members have helped raise over $50,000 toward this ground-breaking research.

If you have questions about this research or are interested in donating towards the program, please contact either NVG Executive Director, Jennifer Kopp, at 707-944-8311 or Bonnie Bergen at the ADI at 707-545-DOGS.
