The Napa Valley Grapegrowers held its 4th Organic Winegrowing Conference on Wednesday & Thursday, July 22 – 23, 2009 at Frog’s Leap Winery in Rutherford to another sold-out crowd of growers and wine industry organic enthusiasts. Highlights from the conference included: an Organic Pest Control Panel; presentations on Cover Crops and Compost; the Grower Panel; and group discussions about organic wine labeling and the CCOF certification process. Tours in the field featured specialized equipment for organic growing, the use of horses in cultivating, beneficial birds and bees, and a dry farming discussion. And of course, everyone stayed after and enjoyed the Wine Reception in the Garden featuring NVG members whose wines are made from organically grown grapes.
