12th Annual Napa Valley Pruning Contest

The 12^th Annual Napa County Pruning Contest was held in Yountville on Friday, February 8.  The industry’s best vineyard workers challenged each other’s art, skill, and speed at pruning Napa Valley vineyards.  Four winners took home over $2,000 in cash winnings and an armful of tools, clothing, and other prizes.

1^ST      Alfredo Segura, Spring Mountain Vineyard
2^ND     Jorge Marron, Komes Ranch
3^RD     Victor Silvestre, Renteria
4^TH     Paulino Velasquez, HALL Wines

Prizes were as follows:  1st Place – $600, a custom trophy buckle, shears, loppers, saw, Sunridge Nursery jacket, a hand-held blower provided by Volvo Equipment Rental and $250 Visa gift card; 2nd Place – $400 plus shears, loppers, Sunridge Nursery jacket and $200 Visa gift card; 3rd Place – $200 plus shears, saw, Sunridge Nursery jacket and $150 Visa gift card; and $100 plus shears, saw, Sunridge Nursery jacket and $100 Visa gift card for 4th Place.  All pruning equipment provided by Premier Sponsor, Central Valley Builders Supply, and supplemental gift cards by Silicon Valley Bank.
